Job Detail
- Perform Welding Operations: Use a variety of welding processes (e.g, FCAW, GMAW/MIG) to join, build up, or repair steel castings in various positions (flat, horizontal, vertical).
- Air Arc Gouging: Utilize air arc cutting (carbon arc gouging) equipment to remove defects, back gouge welds, and prepare metal surfaces for subsequent welding, ensuring proper depth and cleanliness.
- Hand Burning: Operate oxy-fuel or plasma cutting torches to cut, trim, and shape metal parts and risers from castings as needed, following safety procedures.
- Material Preparation and Finishing: Clean and prepare metal surfaces by grinding, wire brushing, or using other tools to ensure effective welds and smooth finishes.
- Quality Assurance: Inspect completed work visually and using measuring devices (e.g, calipers, gauges) to ensure welds meet quality standards and specifications, identifying flaws and reporting them.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance on welding machines, torches, air arc equipment, and other tools, and notify supervisors of faulty equipment.
- Safety and Compliance: Adhere to all company safety programs, policies, and OSHA standards, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as respirators, specialized eye protection, and safety gear.
- Work Environment: Operate overhead cranes and forklifts to move materials and large components safely within the foundry work area.
- Teamwork and Communication: Collaborate with team members and supervisors, follow instructions accurately, and maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience: Proven experience in a steel foundry or heavy industrial environment is preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in arc welding processes (e.g, FCAW, GMAW).
- Demonstrated ability in air arc gouging and hand burning/flame cutting operations.
- Skilled in using manual and power tools, including angle grinders, calipers, and rulers.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds, work in various positions (standing for long periods, bending, kneeling), and work in a foundry environment with potential exposure to high temperatures and noise.
