Job Detail
  • Welds metal parts together, using gas welding and any combination of arc welding processes
  • Performs related tasks, such as thermal cutting and grinding
  • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts
  • Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding
  • locate and repair cracks in industrial engine cylinder heads, using inspection equipment and gas torch
  • be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations
  • Assembly and welding of laid-out components
  • Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding
  • Sets up equipment and welds parts using arc, gas-shielded arc, or gas welding equipment
  • Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts

    Proven experience as a welder/fitter: 5-10 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • D1 certification or related certifications preferred
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization occurs
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Previous experience in heavy manufacturing
  • Ability to read blue prints
  • High School/GED required
  • One-year certificate from college or technical school preferred
