Job Brief
The washington state fair event center is hiring a grounds and landscape specialist to maintain and enhance the grounds and landscaped areas of the event center campus.

Salary Detail
$21 – $28 an hour

Job Detail
  • Perform and oversee the care of landscaped areas, including planting, pruning, mowing, fertilizing, irrigation, and pest management.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of lawns, flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and other landscaped areas.
  • Manage greenhouse operations, including plant propagation, pest control, and seasonal transitions.
  • Operate and maintain landscaping tools and equipment, such as mowers, trimmers, and irrigation systems.
  • Monitor the health of plants, trees, and turf, applying necessary treatments to prevent disease and pests.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, ensuring consistent care and upkeep of the grounds.
  • Assist with seasonal displays and preparation for events.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet the landscaping needs for fairs and other events.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, greenhouse operations, and inventory.
  • Ideal Qualifications
  • At least 3(3) years of experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or a related field.
  • Experience managing greenhouse operations, including plant propagation and pest control.
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining landscaping tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of irrigations systems included but not limited to Hunter and Rainbird systems
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license.
  • Certifications in pesticide application, arboriculture, or related fields.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented individuals with landscape design knowledge, and plant species identification.
  • Knowledge of turf management. soil ecology and native vegetation management and implementation
  • Knowledge of Personal protective equipment (PPE) and proper implementation of each type of PPE
  • Experience maintaining and repairing water features
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Team-oriented mindset and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in varying weather conditions. This position requires physical activity, including lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Compensation BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21 to $28/hourly based on an assessment of knowledge, skills and experience of the candidate offered. Employees are offered healthcare coverage options which include medical, dental, vision, long term disability insurance and can enroll in the Fair’s 403(b) plan. Employees accrue 10vacation days and 8sick leave days a year which can be used once accrued. Additionally, employees enjoy 14paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
