MAINTENANCE WORKER I

DEFINITION
Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, the Maintenance worker I, is required to perform a variety of tasks related to the repair, maintenance and operation of all city owned equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
TYPICAL DUTIES
On a regular basis, operates all city owned vehicles and equipment. Provides maintenance and repair of city owned vehicles and equipment. Provides routine repairs and maintenance of all city owned buildings, including regular janitorial duties, such as waxing of floors, cleaning of restrooms, and other duties as assigned. Maintenance and repair of Wastewater system, including but not limited to the installation and or repair of service laterals, installation, repair, and maintenance of sewer collection system and as necessary, assist the Maintenance II Worker and Wastewater Plant Supervisor as needed. Maintenance and repair of Public Water system, including but not limited to the installation and repair of water services, water meters, fire hydrants, pressure reducing stations, installation and repair of the Water Distribution system and other duties as assigned. Assist Water Treatment Plant Supervisor as needed. Provide maintenance and or repair to all city streets, alleyways, parking lots, and other city owned property, including but not limited to patching of streets, grading of streets or alleyways, mowing of weeds, trimming trees, sweeping streets and other duties as assigned. Maintain all city owned parks and recreational facilities including mowing of lawns, repair and installation of sprinklers and irrigation systems, trimming of trees and shrubs as needed, and other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or equivalent education, and at least two years’ experience in the construction trades. Valid California Class C driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance at minimum city requirements and must supply the city with a California Department of Motor Vehicle print out when submitting an application. Two years’ experience in the operation of heavy equipment. Knowledge of general construction and maintenance methods, materials and terminology. Basic knowledge and uses of hand tools and other construction equipment. Must be in good physical condition with the ability to walk distances, climb ladders, lift and carry heavy objects up to repeatedly. Work at heights of up to 40 feet and the ability to work with others as well as deal with the general public in a professional manner.
REQUIREMENTS
Successful applicants must pass city paid Drug/Alcohol test. The City of Montague is a drug-free Workplace and all employees are subject to random Drug and or Alcohol tests as a condition of employment.
· Must obtain a Water Distribution D-2 license within (1 ½) one and a half years of
employment.
· Must obtain a Water Treatment T-2 license within (2 ½) two and a half years of employment.
· May be required to obtain state licenses as regulations change.
· Must be available for on-call emergencies.
· Will be required to work some weekends and holidays as scheduled.
· Public works employees must live within a 20 minute response time.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
