Maintenance Technician – Groundskeeper

POSITION: Maintenance Technician/Groundskeeper
DEPARTMENT: Facilities
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Manager
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUMMARY: The Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the exterior grounds, landscaping, and outdoor areas of the campus to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for individuals, families, visitors, and staff and creating a well-kept, therapeutic, and visually appealing campus.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain lawns, gardens, walkways, parking lots, and outdoor common areas by mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, and weeding as needed.
Operate lawnmowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, snow blowers, and other maintenance equipment safely and effectively
Plant, fertilize, water, and maintain flowers, shrubs, and trees in accordance with seasonal schedules and facility landscaping plans
Remove litter, debris, and leaves from outdoor areas to ensure cleanliness and accessibility.
Maintain sidewalks, steps, and parking lots in safe condition; apply ice melt and remove snow during winter months
Inspect and report any grounds or exterior maintenance issues such as damaged walkways, lighting, or irrigation problems to the Facilities Manager.
Assist maintenance staff with light exterior repairs, such as painting, cleaning, or pressure washing as assigned.
Maintain proper storage and care of tools, equipment, and supplies.
Follow all safety and infection control protocols in accordance with facility policies.
Support special events or projects as needed (e.g., outdoor activities, seasonal displays, or volunteer landscaping days).
Assist with all other duties assigned
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of landscaping and grounds maintenance techniques.
Ability to safely operate grounds keeping tools and equipment.
Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining a clean, welcoming environment.
Ability to work independently and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Previous experience in grounds keeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Valid drivers license and auto insurance required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, and lift up to 50 lbs.
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions year-round. Must be available to work winter weather events. May need to work over time hours.
Use of protective equipment as required.
Exposure to fumes and loud noises.
