Job Detail
- Daily operation of the mechanical plant and associated HVAC systems at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
- Maintain a valid HVAC Journeyman’s License.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to HVAC equipment and related equipment.
- Perform inspections and provides necessary reporting and recommendations.
- Requisition necessary parts, materials supplies and equipment from Facilities maintenance manager.
- Maintain oversight of related contractors and checks work for compliance.
- Supervises full time and part time assigned personnel when necessary
- Perform other building maintenance tasks as assigned.
- Perform related tasks when needed.
- Provide excellent customer service to internal and external clients.
- Ability to work Monday -Friday 7:00 AM-3:30 PM with rotating weekend shifts some holidays and schedule adjustments based on schedule of events and emergency needs.

- Minimum Requirements:
- MINIMUMS: Requires high school or GED plus 5(5) years experience, in fields related to heating and air conditioning which provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, and associated with such positions as Heating and Cooling Plant Operator, Heating/ Air Conditioning/ Refrigeration Mechanic, or HVAC Maintenance Supervisor. Journeyman HVAC license required. Must have a current and valid drivers license.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when required to meet operational needs. This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to mandatory drug testing. Positive drug test results may result in counseling and/or discipline, up to and including, termination. Positions within this class have been designated as Alpha I positions requiring employees to work during inclement weather, regardless of the Citys operational status. Successful completion of a pre-employment physical. May require a Commercial drivers license.

- Preferences:
- 1. A Master’s HVAC license 2. Experience using the Automated Logic’s (ALC) Building Automation System (BAS) 3. EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification 4. North American Technician Excellence (NATE) Certification or HVAC Excellence Certification 5. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, diagrams, and technical manuals 6. OSHA 30 Training (Construction or General Industry)

- This position is Alpha I and is required to work in excess of the normally scheduled days/hours during inclement weather (hurricanes/snow) and/or in response to short-term department needs, regardless of the City’s operational status
- You must be able to work a flexible schedule to include early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended work shifts and extended number of days as dictated by operational needs.
