Job Summary
  • The Machining Supervisor supervises a team of 5-10 employees within the production cell. The Machining Supervisor is responsible for creating CNC programs, setting up operating CNC machines, surface grinders, polishing and lapping machines. The Machining Supervisor also maintains quality and safety standards. keeps records. maintains equipment and supplies. This role will also coordinate process traveler updates and report WIP status to stakeholders. The soft machining cell includes pressing ceramic material, machining ceramics, firing, polishing and lapping operations. This position reports to Director of Operations.
  • Key Responsibilities Supervise the soft machining operation which includes safety, machinery, operators, shop scheduling and reporting.
  • Assign work for employees in the area, ensure labor utilization, balance labor loading and WIP with customer delivery schedules.
  • Program CNC machines.
  • Inspect machinery to ensure the equipment is in good working order before start-up.
  • Conduct all required setup, adjusting off-sets to close-tolerance specifications.
  • Interpret and execute writ10instructions from process travelers, routers and work instructions.
  • Perform in-process inspection of product to ensure specifications and quality requirements are met.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance as required.
  • Follow safety protocol.
  • Report any safety or maintenance concerns to supervisor and/or management immediately.
  • Keep all work areas clean and organized.
  • Hold self to a high standard of quality and workmanship. Required Skills High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years operating CNC machines is preferred (may be substituted for relevant work experience).
  • Set-up machines, adjust programs, as necessary and operate machines independently.
  • Ability to trouble shoot machinery and make small repairs.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience is preferred (may be substituted for relevant work experience)
  • Interpret blue prints, technical drawings and diagrammed instructions.
  • Use metrology hand-tools such as micrometers, calipers and dial-indicators for product inspection.
  • Solid math skills, including measuring and keeping count records.
  • Commitment to safety.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Standing, bending, lifting up to 30 lbs. regularly for up to 8 hours/shift.
  • Good verbal and writ10communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimum supervision or direction.
  • Experience Requirements Preferred 7+ years experience as a machinist or other relevant role (may be waived based on prior work experience).
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience is preferred (may be waived depending on experience) Education Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent.
