HVAC Technician
POSITION: HVAC Technician
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of three years of documented experience in HVAC maintenance, installation, and repair is required, preferably in a commercial or school environment. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing a range of HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, rooftop units, and split systems. Knowledge of local, state, and federal HVAC codes and regulations is essential. The ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics is required. A valid South Carolina Driver’s License is mandatory. Experience with building management systems as a diagnostic tool is preferred.
REPORTS TO: Director of Maintenance
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across District Five facilities. Ensures all HVAC systems operate efficiently and in compliance with applicable standards to support a safe and comfortable learning environment.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Diagnose and repair HVAC systems and components (e.g. compressors, motors, air handlers, thermostats, dampers)
Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on HVAC units
Monitor and calibrate building control systems, thermostats, and energy management systems
Install and upgrade HVAC systems as needed across District facilitiesEnsure compliance with EPA regulations and safety standards
Maintain detailed service records, logs, and maintenance schedules
Conduct routine inspections and respond to emergency service calls
Replace filters, belts, motors, and other components as required
Coordinate with vendors and contractors for major repairs or upgradesMaintain tools, parts, and equipment inventory
Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies
Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned by the Director of Maintenance or designee
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors with occasional exposure to discomforting environmental conditions such as heat, cold, humidity, noise, electrical hazards, dusts and wetness. Frequent contact with strong cleaning agents. Moderately heavy physical exertion is frequently required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 150 pounds. No travel is required. A district-issued work vehicle will be provided for official duties.
