Job Detail
  • Operates dump trucks hauling loose materials from highway construction projects.
  • Operates trucks for tasks such as spreading salt on icy roads and hauling materials from storage yards to designated sites.
  • Performs general landscaping and grounds maintenance, including mowing grass on/along Township roadways, trimming trees/shrubs, removing dead/diseased trees, and collecting roadside debris/trash.
  • Participates in street repair and resurfacing projects using st1aggregates, hot asphalt, cold patch, and other construction materials.
  • Assists with loading and unloading trucks.
  • Operates tractors with mowing or other commonly towed/pushed attachments.
  • Washes, fuels, and services trucks and equipment daily.
  • Monitors vehicle instruments during operation and takes corrective measures if malfunctions occur.
  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.
  • This description is intended to provide a general overview of the duties and responsibilities of the Equipment Operator 1 position for the Public Works Department. Other duties may be assigned as needed to meet the goals of the Township.   • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of automotive equipment operation and Pennsylvania traffic laws.
  • Familiarity with vehicle components and their functions.
  • Skill in operating single-chassis trucks or similar equipment under varied traffic and weather conditions.
  • Ability to learn and perform routine vehicle maintenance.
  • Ability to follow oral and writ10instructions efficiently.
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods in adverse weather.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment, and respond appropriately in emergencies.
  • Strong commitment to punctuality, attendance, and workplace safety.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience: Some experience operating single-chassis trucks or vehicles of similar complexity, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Licenses/Certifications: Valid Pennsylvania CDL (Class A or B) driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout employment. Other Requirements: Must meet approved physical and medical standards, as determined by the Township’s physician.   • Work is performed mainly outdoors in all types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow.

  • Work is performed under the general supervision and instruction of a supervisor or leader.
  • Employees in this class are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment to provide various services.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb in and out of vehicles and equipment several times a day.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, bend, kneel, and walk for extended periods.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination to operate equipment safely and precisely.
  • Must be able to follow all safety procedures and traffic control guidelines to protect self, coworkers, and the public.
  • Specific vision requirements include no less than 20/40 vision in each eye (with corrective lenses if needed) to read signs, markings, and equipment controls.
  • The employee must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to perform job duties.
  • Work involves conditions that can only be partially controlled.
