The electrician, maintenance is responsible for performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of shipboard and shore-based electrical systems that support the client’s vessel and related range operations.

Job Detail
  • Ensures safe, continuous, and reliable operation of all electrical power and control systems aboard the vessels skilled preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities in compliance with client standards.
  • Install, maintain, and repair shipboard electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, and auxiliary circuits.
  • Inspect wiring, panels, switchboards, outlets, and fixtures for signs of wear, overload, or damage.
  • Diagnose faults using test equipment such as multimeters, megohmmeters, and circuit analyzers.
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC systems, generators, motors, transformers, and electrical control devices.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on electrical panels, junction boxes, breakers, and cables per the PMP schedule.
  • Perform load testing and insulation resistance checks to verify system integrity before and after maintenance.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics in accordance with client’s standards.
  • Assist with electrical power requirements for range operations, including power-up and shutdown procedures for the vessel.
  • Document all maintenance actions, parts used, and test results in the Maintenance Summary Log (MSL) per contract deliverables.
  • Comply with all safety procedures related to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), electrical isolation, and hazardous energy control.
  • Support at-sea operations and emergency drills, including firefighting, damage control, and power restoration exercises.
  • Ensure all work adheres to OSHA 1915, NEC, and OPNAVINST 5100.19F electrical safety requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • U.S. Coast Guard–Approved Basic Firefighting Course (or refresher within the past 5years).
  • U.S. Coast Guard–Approved Able Bodied Seaman Course (may be completed prior to or within 45 days of hire)
  • USCG Medical Certificate (CG-719K) with Food Handler Certification (Section II) attested by a licensed medical practitioner per OPNAVINST 4061.4A
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as an electrician in a shipboard, marine, or industrial maintenance environment.
  • Experience maintaining AC/DC power distribution systems up to 480V.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical faults using diagnostic tools and test instruments.
  • Experience in installing, terminating, and routing electrical cabling in confined and hazardous environments.
  • Working knowledge of NAVSEA drawings, ABS standards, and NAVFAC power systems.
  • Proven ability to maintain and repair generators, lighting systems, and control panels in compliance with safety protocols.
  • Experience documenting maintenance and adhering to government reporting standards.
  • Ability to support both in-port and at-sea operations, including emergency response.
  • Comprehensive understanding of shipboard electrical power systems, distribution circuits, and controls.
  • Strong knowledge of NAVSEA, ABS, NEC, and USCG electrical standards.
  • Familiarity with electrical troubleshooting, power quality monitoring, and generator systems.
  • Understanding of LOTO, arc flash, and hazardous energy procedures per NFPA 70E and OSHA 1915.
  • Secret clearance required.

  • Effective teamwork skills to coordinate with engineers and technicians.
  • Competent in documentation and record keeping for compliance with Navy reporting standards.
  • Ability to work independently or under limited supervision in shipboard environments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems safely under live and simulated conditions.
  • Ability to adhere to safety and environmental protocols during confined-space and energized work.
  • Ability to adapt to changing mission requirements and maintain focus during at-sea operations. Desired Qualifications: Completion of an electrical apprenticeship program, marine electrician training, or equivalent Navy “A”/“C” school.
  • Coursework in marine power distribution, electronics, or electrical safety.
  • Familiarity with ABS electrical inspection requirements and NAVSEA technical manuals.
