Position summary:the diesel technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel-powered vehicles within the dealership’s service department.

Salary Detail
$80,000 – $140,000 a year

Job Detail
  • Diagnose and repair diesel engines, drivetrains, suspension systems, brakes, and electrical components on light-, medium-, or heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections in accordance with dealership and manufacturer guidelines.
  • Utilize factory diagnostic tools, equipment, and software to accurately identify issues and complete repairs.
  • Complete repair orders efficiently while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
  • Communicate with service advisors regarding required repairs, additional work, and estimated completion times.
  • Document all work performed in compliance with dealership and manufacturer requirements.
  • Participate in manufacturer training programs and maintain up-to-date certifications.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
  • Assist other technicians and support teamwork across the service department.
  • Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. technical or vocational training in diesel technology preferred.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience as a diesel technician (dealership experience strongly preferred).
  • Familiarity with manufacturer diagnostic software and repair protocols (e.g, Cummins INSITE, Ford IDS, GM GDS2, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, fuel systems, hydraulics, and electrical diagnostics.
  • Valid driver’s license. CDL or state inspection license a plus.
  • ASE or OEM certifications preferred (or willingness to obtain).
