Job Detail
- This position may be filled as a Combination Inspector III based on qualifications of applicant pool. Essential Job Functions Typical duties include: Reviews architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and site construction plans for conformance with applicable codes and policies.
- Conducts field inspections for code compliance of residential and/or commercial structures including architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, gas, plumbing and other items.
- Interprets codes and aids contractors, engineers, architects, and the public to resolve outstanding plan review and inspection issues to process and approve applications over-the-counter for minor construction projects.
- May serve as Deputy Building Official as assigned.
- Minimum Required Qualifications High school diploma or GED supplemented by a Vocational/Technical degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Plumbing Systems, Construction, or related field. at least 5(5) years of experience in both commercial and residential plan review and inspections is required. or any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Special Requirements Must have either a Residential Building Plans Examiner Certification or Commercial Building Plans Examiner Certification and obtain and maintain within 18(18) months of employment: Residential Building Plans Examiner and/or Commercial Building Plans Examiner certifications and 1of the following 3certifications: Electrical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Plans Examiner, or Plumbing Plans Examiner. Must possess and maintain a valid Virginia driver’s license.
