Job Detail
  • Updates set-up and tooling sheets as required, maintaining the VMC logbook for shift turnover, documenting travelers and Discrepant Materials Report (DMR)
  • Supports and exhibits the focus of zero defects as well as right-the-first-time attitude
  • Inspects work utilizing basic inspection equipment (calipers, micrometers, depth gage, etc
  • )
  • Provides suggestions or advice to maximize the efficiency of Machine Shop
  • Maintains a clean work area and ensures strict adherence to the 5S Standards
  • Accurately adjusts machine settings to complete tasks according to specifications
  • Uses various machine shop support equipment including Saws, Belt Sanders, Grinders, Overhead Cranes and Drill Press
  • Follows FOD (foreign object prevention) practices
  • Complies with established safety directives
  • Complies with established QMS procedures
  • Other duties be assigned


  • CNC Machinist IV (Development):

    Development position purpose is to assist engineering in the design of new concepts and prototype parts


  • Works very independently under minimal supervision
  • Responsible for machining production “MS” Tooling
  • Responsible for repairing production tooling (outside departments)
  • Responsible for programming and verifying development part programs
  • Responsible for quoting hours on jobs / tooling and materials
  • Responsible for working towards a production transition on proven developments
  • Responsible for training lower-level machinists
  • Responsible for generating process improvements

    Required:

    Each successive level of CNC Machinist builds on the identified knowledge, skills and abilities listed for the previous level(s) CNC Machinists


  • Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential information as required by government standards
  • Ability to interact effectively with peers and supervisors
  • Ability to interact appropriately with the public when necessary
  • Ability to adhere to workplace rules


  • CNC Machinist IV (Development):

    Ability to program using Mastercam
  • Ability to verify NC programs using Vericut
  • Ability to quote hours and potential costs for tools/material to manufacture developmental parts
  • Ability to schedule with department leads to set priorities
  • Ability to work directly with ME’s about the manufacturability of part designs
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures involving CNC machines
  • Knowledge of cutters and effective use of cutters for maximum efficiency
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement techniques beneficial
  • Ability to save/move (familiarity with PC a must) various programs on an “as needed” basis
  • Knowledge of the HAAS controllers a plus
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings
  • Must be able to demonstrate accurate basic math skills
  • Ability to comprehend geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Must be able to interpret and work from industry specifications
  • Ability to edit and save g-code
  • Ability to calculate feeds and speeds
  • Ability to train and mentor level I and II CNC Machinists
  • Must understand the fundamentals of programming and design to communicate with ME’s and Programmers
  • Ability to machine various metals such as Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, Brass and Inconel


  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Required:

    Each successive level of CNC Machinist builds on the identified education and experience listed for the previous level(s) CNC Machinists


  • CNC Machinist IV:

    All Machinist III qualifications, plus 2 year’s minimum programming experience
  • Experience performing 3D programming off solid models
  • Experience with Vericut software
  • 8 years hands-on experience in composite manufacturing CNC Machine Shop
  • Proven experience handling and machining various composite materials
  • Proven experience handling and machining various honeycomb metal bond assemblies
  • Typical qualifications for this level include an advanced level of experience with: Math – functional to advanced understanding and practical application of trigonometry

    Preferred, ALL:

    Experience with aircraft machined parts a definite plus


  • WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time
  • Standing, walking, bending, reaching and working from slightly elevated surface
  • Use of hand tools
  • Employee generate, handle, manage, or work around hazardous materials and hazardous wastes
  • be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines
