Job Detail
  • A Class A Dump Trailer Driver is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that transports debris from the Transfer Station to the Landfill as needed
  • A Class A Dump Trailer Driver typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates


  • Key Duties


  • Must have a valid Class A CDL with a good driving record within MVR policy guidelines
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations
  • Drives 75-yard transfer trailer trucks to transport materials to/from the Transfer Station and the Landfill
  • Knowledge with chaining and binding of equipment being transported
  • (DOT)
  • Perform daily safety checks of fluid levels on oil, water, fuel and inspections for leaks and damage to vehicle before operation
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of vehicle to remain in proper and safe working order
  • Responsible for notifying supervisor if vehicle needs to be repaired
  • Ability to operate and load efficiently
  • Driver must be able to climb in and out of cab safely
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Education and Experience
  • This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Class A Dump Trailer Driver


  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred
  • Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years or more of driving related experience is required for this position


  • Physical Demands
  • The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Class A Dump Trailer Driver to successfully perform the essential functions of this job


  • Routinely work a shift of 10-12 hours/per day, including nights and weekends
  • Required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb
  • The Driver must be able to climb into and out of the cab safely
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull, periodically at least 25 pounds; occasionally, up to 50lbs
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner
  • Potential exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise; ability to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hardhat, where applicable
  • Periodically walk and/or stand, for short periods of time, on various terrain, including sand, gravel, pavement and dirt
  • Must be able to communicate and understand both orally and written/typed

  • The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Class A Dump Trailer Driver encounters while performing the essential functions of this job


  • Work is performed indoors (office setting) and outdoors (construction, landfill, and asphalt sites)
  • Work environment periodically expose individual to various levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a plant; either engineering controls and/or personal protective equipment is required, to ensure exposure limit does not exceed OSHA specifications
  • Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery
  • Work involve exposure to a variety of substances such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline and diesel fuel; however, no levels above OSHA Permissible exposure limit
