Job Detail
- Assemble, disassemble, repair, and modify equipment and rolls
- Clean and lubricate parts
- Accurately use micrometers, vernier calipers, and other measuring devices
- Remove and install bearings
- Reassemble machines and equipment following repair. test operation and make necessary adjustments
- Repair or replace defective parts using hand tools, milling machines, and welding equipment
- Examine and overhaul equipment/rolls
- Record details of repairs and parts used
- Read and interpret schematics, mechanical/engineering drawings, and technical manuals
- Perform precision measurements of parts using micrometers, calipers, sine bars, etc.
- Operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move parts in the plant
- Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
- Qualifications
- 1–3 years of direct experience or training in roll mechanics or at least 3 years in a related role
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform standard shop computations
- Ability to read schematics, engineering drawings, and technical manuals
- Familiarity with bearing removal and installation
- Basic electrical and gas welding skills desired
- Ability to make procedural decisions and sound judgments
- Commitment to safety and following established procedures
- Working Conditions
- Moderate exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, odors, and loud noises
- Moderate physical activity, including handling objects up to 25–50 lbs. and standing/walking for 6+ hours per day
- Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or risks, requiring proper safety precautions
