Industrial Painter – Finishing/Assembly
POSITION PURPOSE: The Industrial Painter – Finishing/Assembly performs a variety of painting, stamping, printing, and light assembly functions within the Department. This would include, but is not limited to: masking, sanding, packing, bonding, racking, and using fixtures/jigs to add value to plastic components in a clean, cooperative environment.
REPORTS TO: Finishing Supervisor
JOB DUTIES:
1. Maintains a safety-first approach in performing all activities.
2. Spray paints or puts shielding (using spray gun) on plastic/metal parts/components.
3. Packs finished parts/products in plastic wrap, bags and/or boxes.
4. Sands parts, trims parts using clippers and/or knives.
5. Assembles parts, including: gluing/bonding, snapping together, putting grommets/inserts into part, drilling holes in part with drill press and using screws to assemble.
6. Welds plastic parts using proper equipment.
7. Mills sprues down flush and/or puts slots in parts.
8. Racks part on a conveyor line, feeds part to an assembly line, pulls parts out of boxes.
9. Inspects parts working on for flaws and notifies inspector of equipment problems.
10. Inserts are places parts on racks for printing/stamping operations.
11. Performs other duties as assigned and directed.
REQUIREMENTS:
An ability to read and write. Must be able to follow verbal as well as written instructions.
Six months or more experience performing industrial painting work.
Must be able to perform all painting, printing, assembly operations, and become familiar with established quality control procedures.
Must understand and apply quality standards. Follow operational procedures: be attentive to details, zero defects is the goal. It is extremely important to focus on quality of work first so as to dramatically reduce rejects. Handle and protect all parts with the utmost care. Even rejected parts should be handled carefully to reduce the amount of rework needed to save the parts.
PHYSICAL EXERTION:
Lift 30 lbs or less regularly. Requires standing entire shift, eight (8) hours/day (some jobs permit sitting for brief periods while performing specific operations). Must be able to rotate on all jobs, bending, twisting, and stooping and extensively using hands, wrists and shoulders to lift items and perform operations continuously. Uses hand/eye coordination. Has to work around paints, organic solvents and adhesives. Being a custom shop, jobs continuously change on a regular basis, Operators have to work in conditions involving heat and may involve dust when sanding and/or grinding.

Spray guns, sanders and sandpaper, knife(s), screw driver, hammer, sonic welders, drill presses, mills, wet wash paint booths, staining trays, clippers, pliers, brushes, syringes, tubes, rags, emery cloth, pads, overhead conveyors, conveyor lines, fixtures, paint pots, mask washers, markers, pencils, gloves, paint masks, glasses/goggles, hair covers, paint suits/aprons, glue, tape.
ATTENDANCE:
Must be in attendance on a regular, full time basis and conform to all Company Attendance Policies. Must be available and willing to work all shifts and overtime (including weekends) as necessary/required.
STATUS: Hourly bargaining unit (production) non-exempt (overtime eligible).
