Job Summary
Have you been a competent person on your crew, or interested in a career in construction safety?
The Safety Observer is responsible for monitoring commercial roofing operations to ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with OSHA and company safety standards. This position requires strong fall protection experience and a proactive approach to identifying and correcting unsafe conditions.
The Safety Observer works closely with the Safety Manager to maintain a consistent, site-level safety presence and support company-wide safety initiatives.
Responsibilities
Observe roofing crews to ensure compliance with company and OSHA safety procedures.
Inspect and verify proper setup and use of fall protection systems (harnesses, anchors, guardrails, warning lines, etc.).
Identify hazards, unsafe conditions, or at-risk behaviors and stop work as necessary until corrections are made.
Conduct daily safety walks and complete observation reports accurately.
Ensure all PPE and safety equipment are in place and properly used.
Participate in toolbox talks and assist in safety meetings or training sessions.
Work directly with the Safety Manager to:
Conduct incident and near-miss investigations
Track and report safety metrics
Implement corrective actions and continuous improvement efforts
Support the Safety Manager with company audits, site inspections, and compliance documentation.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of safety experience in commercial roofing or construction with fall risk exposure.
Proven knowledge of fall protection standards (OSHA 1926 Subpart M).
OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification preferred (open)
Fall Protection Competent Person certification preferred. (open)
First Aid/CPR certification preferred. (open)
Strong communication, observation, and documentation skills.
Ability to remain alert and objective during active job-site operations.
Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Schedule
Full-time
Monday to Friday (occasional weekends as needed)
Travel between job sites required- Occasional overnight

Base Pay: $52,000.00 – $68,000.00 per year
