  • CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION CLASSIFICATION TITLE: FACILITIES MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN – PAINTER
  • PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION
  • The primary purpose of this classification is to apply, prime/finish paints, varnishes, lacquers and other covering materials necessary to maintain facilities overall appearance. perform a wide variety of maintenance/repairs. provide daily supervision to assigned inmates. and perform additional tasks as assigned.
  • Works under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Director.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Attends meetings with supervisor. receives work orders and prioritizes daily schedule.
  • Picks up and supervises inmates if assigned when performing tasks.
  • Inspects work sites to take dimensions, layout work, and estimate materials required.
  • Refinishes furniture such as desks, chairs, tables and bookcases.
  • Mixes and matches paints and blends various paints, enamels, lacquers, varnishes, stains and special protective coatings to achieve desired color, consistency, and drying properties.
  • Repairs surfaces to be painted by caulking, puttying, cementing or plastering holes and cracks prior to painting.
  • Erects, uses and removes scaffolding, ladders, staging and various rigging to gain access to difficult areas as needed.
  • Moves or covers furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Maintains brushes, rollers, sprayers, and all other equipment.
  • Keeps work area clean, safe and organized.
  • Lifts and carries supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Assembles and moves furniture and equipment, sets up and takes down furniture and equipment for meetings.
  • Meets and assists vendors with entry to facilities.
  • Maintains records and files reports pertaining to work assignments.
  • Performs a wide variety of repairs, maintenance and preventive maintenance in County buildings and properties.
  • Operates various tools and equipment necessary for preparation and painting, including pain sprayer, pressure washer, scissor lift, tile scraper, etc., and used for basic building maintenance, including power tools, hand tools and ladders.
  • Operates basic office equipment including computer, ph1system, copier/fax machine and other equipment as needed.
  • Operate vehicles used to travel to work site, including vans, bucket truck, man-lift and scissor lift. maintains trucks and tools, notifies supervisor of potential problems and maintenance needs of trucks and equipment operation.
  • Collects, maintains and adhere to Material Safety Data Sheets for any and all chemicals used in conjunction with performed duties.
  • Assists with snow and ice removal when required.
  • Stays abreast of and adheres to county and department policies and procedures.
  • ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
  • Responds to emergency service requests as needed, including participating in the on-call rotation managing after-hours emergency calls.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 3to 5years experience providing knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, and tools attributable to the painting trade and building maintenance and repairs. comprehensive knowledge of painting terminology. prior experience working in a secure environment while performing tasks such as jail and/or prison is a plus, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge , skills and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving history. Must possess or have the ability to obtain, secure/non-secure certification through the Georgia Department of Corrections in conjunction with the Jackson County Correctional Institute within the mandated time frame from the Department Head.
