Preventative maintenance mechanic – heavy equipment (cdl)location:kermit txwage:$25-$35+ based on experiencejob summary: the preventative maintenance (pm) mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and performing routine service on heavy equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

$25 – $35 an hour

• Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on heavy equipment such as loaders, excavators, haul trucks, dozers, motor graders, skid steers, and other machinery.
• Inspect equipment systems including engines, hydraulics, electrical, cooling, brakes, and drivetrains to identify potential issues.
• Document all inspections, service activities, and repairs in maintenance logs or digital systems.
• Diagnose minor mechanical issues and perform basic repairs before equipment failure occurs.
• Change fluids, filters, belts, hoses, and wearable components according to service intervals.
• Lubricate equipment and ensure proper fluid levels.
• Operate service trucks and transport equipment as needed using CDL-required vehicles.
• Assist in troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical problems in the field.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment in the shop and on job sites.
• Follow company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Communicate equipment condition and repair needs to supervisors and equipment managers.
• Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required. technical or vocational training preferred.
• Valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) required.
• 2+ years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance or diesel mechanics preferred.
• Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
• Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
• Capable of working independently and in remote job-site environments.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in outdoor conditions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Preferred Skills:
• Experience with CAT, Komatsu, John Deere, Volvo, or other heavy-equipment brands.
• Welding or fabrication experience.
• Familiarity with telematics and digital maintenance systems.
• Field service experience with PM trucks.
