Job Detail
- Manage all preventive maintenance schedules for a mixed fleet of buses, vans, and specialty vehicles.
- Diagnose mechanical issues and oversee repairs to minimize downtime.
- Ensure availability of road-ready vehicles for daily operations.
- Maintain accurate service records for all vehicles (DOT, FMCSA, 19-A where applicable).
- Compliance Safety Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, NYSDMV, OSHA, and company policies.
- Oversee 45-day/90-day inspection cycles, annual inspections, and brake certifications.
- Maintain electronic and physical maintenance logs and DVIR documentation.
- Coordinate with Safety Compliance on driver write-ups, defect reporting, and corrective actions.
- Leadership Team Management Supervise mechanics, service technicians, and shop assistants.
- Assign repair orders and monitor productivity and workmanship.
- Train staff on proper diagnostic and repair procedures.
- Enforce safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized shop environment.
- Vendor Inventory Management Manage parts inventory, shop supplies, and purchasing.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors and external service providers.
- Review and approve invoices, quotes, and repair estimates.
- Track and control maintenance-related expenses to meet budget targets.
- Reporting Administration Prepare weekly fleet condition reports and operational KPIs.
- Track major repairs, warranty claims, and breakdown trends.
- Recommend fleet replacement priorities and lifecycle planning.
- Job Qualifications 3–5+ years of experience in fleet maintenance management or a related automotive/diesel role.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, gas engines, electrical systems, and hydraulic systems.
- Experience with buses, paratransit vehicles, and/or commercial fleets preferred.
- Understanding of DOT, FMCSA, and NY state inspection requirements.
- Ability to read diagnostic data and utilize fleet maintenance software.
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Valid driver’s license (CDL B with P/S endorsements a plus. company may assist with upgrading).
