Salary Detail
$30.49 – $40.43 an hour

Job Detail
  • Coordinate the work efforts in collaboration with shop personnel in the maintenance and repair of the school district transportation, maintenance, grounds and co-op vehicles
  • Prepare and audit the preventive maintenance program for transportation and maintenance vehicles and maintain related records and reports on vehicle maintenance operations per district policy and retention manual

  • Diagnose, repair and maintain or rebuild hydraulic and air brakes systems, ABS, vacuum and hydro boost systems, rear axles, power steering automatic transmissions, compressors, etc.
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain and/or replace generators, alternators, starters and all other electrical systems and wiring components
  • Diagnose, repair and maintain suspension systems
  • Perform general tune-ups, valve adjustments, and fuel systems repairs i.e. HEUI, CAPS, EFI, and MPFI.
  • Perform any other related duties as required for major and minor fleet maintenance and operation
  • Make minor roadside repairs or tow disabled vehicles to the maintenance shop
  • Repair and replace and maintain seats, glass, sheet metal latches and other body components and assemblies, prepare and paint buses
  • Change oil and filters, flush and maintain cooling systems
  • Maintain required tire tread, install tires, adjust, repair and install brakes and lubricate chassis and wheel bearings, install tire chains
  • Perform preventative maintenance and bus safety inspections
  • Perform road testing to determine road ability
  • Use all shop equipment safely and proficiently i.e. battery charger, compression gauge, torque wrench, welding (acetylene and arc) equipment, grinder, reamer, timing light, hoist, jack, porta-power, pumps, compressor, alignment bar, drill press, headlight adjustment machine, air tools, spark plug tester, and other related equipment
  • Help maintain a safe, organized, clean work environment
  • Assist with the maintenance of the grounds as needed
  • Be available to drive school bus on a regular established route and/or activity trip as assigned
  • Be reachable by ph1after hours to assist with transportation emergencies
  • Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned by their supervisor
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and the community, able to perform these duties with awareness of all school district requirements and policies Preferred Qualifications: Completion of recognized apprenticeship as a heavy duty truck and/or bus mechanic or full journeyman status as a heavy duty truck and/or bus mechanic or 4years of applicable and successful experience in the maintenance and repair of both diesel and gas powered heavy duty trucks and/or buses
  • Vocational training may be substituted for work experience for up to 2years of work experience. Required Qualifications: High School Graduate
  • Must possess a Class B CDL with P and S endorsements, airbrake restriction removed or be able to secure said license within 2months of being hired
  • Hold a current and valid first-aid/CPR card or able to secure in 60 days
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds and stand for long periods of time
  • Must have normal vision and hearing with correction to be able to observe and hear all mechanical defects
  • Must demonstrate ability to use all shop equipment and tools including computerized engine diagnostic software

  • Must be able to operate office machines and personal computer
  • Must be able to read and understand technical manuals and instructions and perform technical research via websites
  • Must be able to understand and carry out writ10and oral directions with minimal supervision
  • Must be a team player who is willing to maintain cooperative relations with shop and district personnel
  • Must make effective use of discretion and independent judgment on a daily basis
  • Must be able to recognize when other shop personnel need assistance and offer assistance without being directed
  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • This position may occasionally require unscheduled overtime
