- Excavators
- Wheel Loaders
- Backhoes
- Key Responsibilities:
- Safely operate assigned heavy equipment to support underground utility installation
- Excavate trenches to grade while protecting existing utilities and maintaining trench safety
- Load, move, and place pipe bedding and backfill materials
- Maintain clear communication with pipe crews, laborers, and foremen
- Assist with pipe handling and positioning during installation
- Support trench safety protocols, including setup/removal of trench boxes
- Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventive maintenance
- Follow project drawings, grade stakes, or GPS systems to meet project tolerances
- Adjust to changing site conditions and support multiple stages of utility installation
- Monitor for and report any unsafe conditions or equipment issues
- Qualifications:
- Proven experience operating 1or more of the following: excavator, loader, dozer, or skid steer
- Experience supporting underground wet utility installation (sewer, water, storm)
- Strong understanding of trench safety and excavation practices
- Ability to read plans, trench grades, and utility depths
- Must be reliable, punctual, and work well as part of a field crew
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
- Able to work in various outdoor conditions and physically demanding environments
- Preferred:
- Familiarity with pipe laser, GPS, or machine control systems
- Knowledge of bedding, compaction, and backfill standards for utilities
- Experience with shoring and trench safety equipment
