Position: Golf Course Assistant Superintendent

Job Brief
Position summary under the direction of the golf course superintendent, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, ornamentals and other course areas.

Job Detail
  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and supervising maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and ornamental areas.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate maintenance staff. assign daily work and monitor performance.
  • Oversee and/or perform pesticide and fertilizer applications. ensure proper calibration and safe operation of application equipment.
  • Operate, maintain, and assist in repair of turf equipment and vehicles. instruct operators on safe use and post-use care.
  • Assist in the operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, pumps, wells, and automatic controls.
  • Assist the Superintendent with personnel matters including hiring recommendations, performance evaluations.
  • Support and enforce employee safety programs and best practices.
  • Adjust daily work plans based on professional assessment of course conditions and priorities (e.g, tournaments, weather).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Superintendent or City management.
  • Minimum Qualifications Education Experience High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in golf course or turf maintenance. supervisory experience preferred.
  • Progress toward or possession of a degree or coursework in turf management, horticulture, agronomy, or related field is desirable. Licenses Certifications Valid driver’s license required.
  • Must possess or obtain a Utah State Pesticide Applicator License within 6(6) months of hire.
  • Willingness to pursue additional certifications and continuing education.
  • Knowledge, Skills Abilities Knowledge Turfgrass management practices for greens, tees, and fairways.
  • Proper selection and use of fertilizers, herbicides, and pest control methods.
  • Irrigation system components and operation.
  • Equipment operation, preventive maintenance, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Basic personnel management and workplace safety standards. Skills Ability to follow writ10and oral instructions precisely.
  • Strong team leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills for recordkeeping and scheduling.
  • Ability to train others in safe equipment operation and maintenance techniques. Abilities Effectively supervise and motivate maintenance personnel for efficient use of staff and equipment.
  • Maintain positive employee and public relations.
  • Work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and extended shifts during peak periods or tournaments.
  • Perform physical work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and lift/move required materials and equipment.
  • Physical Demands Work Environment
  • Frequently required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and use hands and arms to operate tools and equipment.
  • Frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds. occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to wet/humid conditions, chemicals, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and loud equipment.
