Job Detail
  • Operate safety equipment, and use safe work habits
  • Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
  • Ignite torches or start power supplies and strike arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind and/or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
  • Detect faulty operation of equipment and/or defective materials, and notify supervisors
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
  • Examine work pieces for defects, and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications
  • Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment
  • Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers
  • Performs other related duties as required


  • Educational And Other Requirements

    High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required
  • Minimum one (1) year work related skill, knowledge, and hands on experience or vocational training preferred, but not required
  • Must stay in position for at least two (2) years depending on prior experience before promoting to Welder II
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
  • Sensitive to confidential information
  • Must work independently and as a member of team


  • Mental and Physical Requirements

    Able to read, speak and write English
  • Strong physical and mental health to maintain demanding workload
  • Able to work under stressful conditions at times
  • Climbing – able to go up and down stairs
  • Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats when needed, including welding safety equipment
  • Position will consistently dictate 40 – 60 hours per week with frequent overtime demands based on the workload requirements
  • Position will require some (6) six day weeks when workload demands, with time off scheduled per current workload and other staff availability
  • Strong work ethics of integrity and honesty strives for excellence in all activities employing accompanying communication
  • Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources
  • Identifying information by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events
